Chris Brown invited the world to his mansion for a high-end yard sale

“Featuring significantly marked-down, high end designer items,” it said.

In the caption, Brown had little to add — just the words “DA CRIB” and a heart emoji.

It wasn’t immediately clear why Brown had made the decision — utterly normal for the average person, highly abnormal for a celebrity — to sell off his stuff in his front yard. Was he in need of cash? Practicing the KonMari method of dumping the things that no longer bring him joy?

Hard to say. Publicists for the musician, a Virginia native who shot to fame as a teenager and has subsequently produced a stream of chart-toppers, despite legal issues including a 2009 domestic violence arrest, did not immediately respond to inquiries from The Washington Post. ABC News reported that Brown plans to donate a portion of the proceeds to nonprofits he supports.

Whatever the reason for the sale, a mix of what the Associated Press called “fans, gawkers and bargain-seekers” were all too happy to turn out for the deals.

“You get to come to his house and then pick out stuff from his closet,” an excited shopper told the news service. “I can’t imagine going to Michael Jackson’s house and being able to go through his jackets and be like, ‘Ooh, this is hard.’ ”

A crush of news cameras documented the scene: An orderly line of hundreds of people waited on the sidewalk, some wrapped in blankets. A food truck catered to the crowd. Overhead footage showed at least a dozen white tents in the cul-de-sac outside Brown’s home. Beneath them were racks loaded with clothing and tables stacked with shoes.

People left the sale with armfuls of stuff. A man told a swarm of reporters that he had spent $470, scooping up “old school Tommy, old school Nike, some Supreme, some limited-edition dunks, stuff like that.”

“And it’s all my size, so it’s perfect,” he added.

One woman claimed to have gotten more than expected, telling TMZ that she found what appeared to be marijuana in the pocket of a hoodie.

Breezy’s sale is set to continue into Thursday evening. No word on whether he plans to make an appearance at it.
