Toorak mansion trades for $15 million-plus, after neighbour’s sale

A grand home in Melbourne’s exclusive Toorak has changed hands for more than $15 million, following the sale of the mansion next door less than a year ago.

The six-bedroom residence, dating to 1925, is located in a sought after spot off the luxurious boulevard Albany Road.

At 9 Yar Orrong Road, the home is on an oversized block of 2156 square metres and was listed with a price guide of $15.5 million to $16.5 million.

Kay & Burton’s Michael Gibson confirmed the sale when contacted by Domain but declined to comment further, while Robert Fletcher also declined to comment, as did Ross Savas. A sold sticker has appeared on the property’s marketing.

Public records list the vendors as Anthony and Suzanne Stern, with the home last changing hands in 1994 for $2.42 million.

The property features a marble entrance foyer, granite kitchen, library, office, heated swimming pool, floodlit tennis court, north-facing gardens, garaging for four cars, gas log fireplaces and central heating.

The lower level offers self-contained accommodation, marketed as suitable for a nanny or in-laws.

Located close to Toorak Road and sought-after private schools, Yar Orrong Road has been in focus after another sale in the street at a similar level.

Number 7 Yar Orrong Road changed hands for $15.5 million less than a year ago, when it was bought by Evelynne Gance, married to AFR Rich Lister and Chemist Warehouse co-founder Jack Gance. Mr Gance has an estimated wealth of $989 million, according to the most recent Rich List.

Toorak is home to some of the highest-priced sales in the city over recent years after tech entrepreneur Ruslan Kogan paid $38.8 million for a base in the suburb and mystery buyer Qi Yang bought a house on an expansive block for $38 million.

An oversized empty land parcel in Toorak’s desirable St Georges Road was this year offered for sale with a price guide of $40 million to $44 million.

Melbourne’s house price record stands at $52.5 million for Stonington mansion in nearby Malvern.
